Wings, Tracks, and Wheels 2024

Saturday May 4th and Sunday May 5th Wings, Tracks, and Wheels brings together military vehicles, historical re-enactors, live demonstrations and presentations, and aircraft flyovers for an event you'll long remember.

But here is what we can tell you so far:

The Planes of Fame Air Museum is converting the Museum grounds into a military encampment featuring aircraft, military vehicles, and Living Historian re-enactors to create a salute to our military heritage. There will be plenty of food and drink and lot’s of activities for the entire family.

We will have Hangar Talk sessions and a terrific opening ceremony planned.

There will be flying demos of some of our aircraft, an M4 Sherman Tank demonstration as well, Raffle Drawings for Museum Members for a flight, and attendees will have a chance to win a flight in one of our aircraft as well.

Here is the line-up for aircraft flying demonstrations for "Wings, Tracks, and Wheels."

U.S. Army Air Force aircraft:

  • Lockheed P-38J "Lightning"

  • Curtiss P-40N "Warhawk"

  • North American P-51D "Mustang"

U.S. Navy aircraft:

  • Douglas SBD-5 "Dauntless"

  • General Motors TBM-3E "Avenger"

  • Grumman F8F "Bearcat"

U.S. Military Trainers:

  • Boeing Stearman PT-17/S2N-4 "Kaydet"

  • Fairchild PT-26A "Cornell"

  • Vultee BT-13B "Valiant"

  • North American SNJ/AT-6 "Texan"

In addition to the demo flights, there will be a demonstration of the V-1 Pulse-Jet engine, many other military vehicles, encampments, aircraft rides, Tiny Tank battles, Youth Programs, Kid's Obstacle Course, Junior Modeler's Workshops, and hand's-on activities like the Junior Modeler's Scale Model Aircraft workshops and the "Learning to Rivet" experience. Stroll the Museum’s campus to see our incredible display of aircraft joined by dozens of visiting military jeeps, trucks, and other vehicles from our military past as well as dozens of historical re-enactors in military uniforms putting on demonstrations and telling stories in a real encampments.

FAMILY FUN FOR EVERYONE

There is going to be a selection of food and drink offerings and fun treats.

There are ongoing activities such as our Riveting Demo (you won’t want to miss this!) plus several aircraft on display to see up close.

And we’ve got a special area for our younger visitors!
