AMS Foundation Launches to Support Future Aviation Mechanics and Pilots

San Mateo, CA – April 9, 2026 — Aviation educator and industry leader Richard Sprott, in partnership with In Flight USA, has officially launched the AMS Foundation, a new nonprofit dedicated to providing scholarships for aspiring aviation mechanics and pilots.

The AMS Foundation aims to address one of the aviation industry’s most pressing challenges: workforce development. With increasing demand for skilled aviation maintenance technicians and qualified pilots, the foundation is focused on removing financial barriers and creating clear pathways into aviation careers.

The initiative builds on Sprott’s work through Sprott Learning: Aeronautics, a training and certification platform designed to help aviation maintenance professionals advance their careers through accelerated, industry-relevant education. The program serves active-duty military personnel, veterans, and civilians seeking certifications such as FAA Airframe & Powerplant and avionics credentials.

Supporting the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals

Through scholarship funding, the AMS Foundation will assist individuals pursuing careers in:

•          Aviation maintenance (A&P and avionics certifications)

•          Pilot training and flight education

•          Technical certifications supporting aviation operations

The foundation places a particular emphasis on supporting veterans transitioning into civilian aviation careers—a population already well-positioned for success due to their technical training and operational experience.

“Aviation is facing a critical shortage of skilled professionals,” said Sprott. “The AMS Foundation is about opening doors—giving motivated individuals the opportunity to train, certify, and succeed in this industry.”

Addressing an Industry-Wide Need

Across the aviation sector, scholarship programs have become a key tool for strengthening the talent pipeline. Industry initiatives—from maintenance training awards to flight training scholarships—are increasingly being used to reduce financial barriers and connect students with career pathways.

The AMS Foundation enters this landscape with a focused mission: to directly support individuals committed to careers in aviation maintenance and flight operations, while partnering with media and training organizations to expand awareness and access.

Partnership with In Flight USA

As a longstanding voice in general aviation, In Flight USA will help amplify the foundation’s reach through editorial coverage, industry connections, and community engagement.

“This partnership allows us to do more than report on the industry—we can actively help shape its future,” said a representative from In Flight USA. “Supporting education and workforce development is essential to keeping aviation strong.”

Looking Ahead

The AMS Foundation is expected to roll out scholarship opportunities in the coming months, with details on eligibility, application timelines, and funding levels to be announced through official channels.
