September '08 Blog Entry #1

by Victoria Buonocore

While we couldn’t be more proud to celebrate our 25th anniversary this month of continuous publishing, we want to take this opportunity to first humbly and sincerely thank our readers and advertisers, many of whom have been with us for years, some for all 25!

As a matter of fact, when we took a walk back through our files, we found that Hester Robertson Insurance services, owned and operated by Chuck, Alice and Daniel Robertson, have been our longest continuous advertiser with us and we thank them.

Twenty-five years ago, we used computers called Edit-Writers (big funky blue machines) that allowed us to read copy along a thin horizontal strip of screen. The copy would come out of the machine in column format and then we used Exacto blades to cut them out and hot wax to paste them down on flats that the printer actually had to come and get from our offices.

Needless to say things have changed dramatically. Everything is now electronic and no paper is needed, except for the actual newsprint required to make the magazine. The pages are prepared on the computer and sent – email style – directly to the print shop.

Our best birthday present comes this month in the form of a new website. While we’ve been “live” for a couple of years, the old site was in need of a face-lift and expansion. Today, we come to you “live” with a fresh new look, updated pages and more user-friendly formats.

Be sure to check out the September edition of In Fight USA for complete coverage of Oshkosh, the Dayton Airshow and the Farnborough International Airshow (from across “the pond”). And, keep an eye out for the October edition where Reno will take center stage!

Blue Skies!
